Writing Standards for Nonfiction Social Studies and Science:
Text Types and Purposes:
The student must be able to:
  • write informatived/explanatory pieces including narration of historical events or scientific procedures/experiments.
  • clearly introducing their topic, organize ideas, concepts, and information into broader catergories by including but not limited to: headings, graphics, charts, tables, and multimedia.
  • develope topic with relevant facts, definitions, concrete details, quotations, and other supporting details.
  • correctly use transition words.
  • use appropriate vocabulary and words specific to science.
  • write in a formal style and include tone.
  • include a conclusion sentence/section that supports your paper.
Research to Build and Present Knowledge:
The student must be able to:
  • draw evidence from the text to support their research and reflection.
